I sincerely congratulate you on your professional holiday – the Day of Local Self-Government, which emphasizes the importance of the existence of this democratic society institution!
Even in the days of Kyivan Rus', self-government acquired civic significance and found expression in the people's council (viche). Today, the right of citizens to participate in the management of public affairs, to freely elect and be elected to public authorities and local governments is guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine.
Further improvement and development of local self-government is an important direction and a prerequisite for socio-economic and cultural development of villages, towns and cities; guarantee of Ukraine's accession to the European and world community. Strengthening democracy is one of the priorities for the future!
Today I want to address special words of respect to those who day by day demonstrate civic responsibility, dedication and professionalism, solving important issues for the well-being of citizens. Thank you for your active life position, participation in public and political life, daily work side by side for a common goal.
I wish you peace, prosperity, generous achievements in the development of villages, towns and cities!
